Stage poets and page poets
Love , one of life 's greatest enigmas , has been a theme covered in poetry for centuries . Though many poets write declarations of love they also frequently write about yearning for love . Two solid examples of poems that cover this theme of yearning are , I Take Master Card by page poet , Nikki Giovanni , and , Love ' by stage poet , Beau Sia In , I Take Master Card ' Giovanni portrays a brilliant understanding of love in modern times while lacing the edges with feminine grace . In the poem , she writes , You see we modern women do comprehend

/ that we deserve a whole lot more (10-11 ) In these two lines , Giovanni portrays a bit of dignified desperation . She is saying that modern women respect themselves enough to know they are deserving of a fabulous love . She continues with the modernity that love , often overwhelming requires compromise from both parties . Though Giovanni 's race can be brought to the forefront as a possible reason for her portrayal of strong women , her passionate language suggests there is more to her opinion than her African American heritage . Giovanni never hesitates to put women on the same level as men , and yet suggests that women also need to be understanding . Even though much of the poem gives off a feminist 's attitude , a lingering pride in old-fashioned gender roles and servitude also exists
Giovanni also offers a bit of subtle sexuality , suggesting a more sexually free society than the past was familiar with . In this sense I Take Master...
