Management is applied in every domain of work . It carries a grave importance and without it an organization cannot function to its full efficiency and capacity . So it reiterates our point that the underline principle of management remains the same no matter what business you are in . Now when these skills and principles of management are applied , it leads to a belief of managerialism . In layman terms it is the belief or the notion that performance of all the organizations , no matter what their core business is , can be optimized if management theories are applied . Exploring more into the term , it also tells us that these days it is said that MBA degree in all aspects equips a manager with such important skills which makes him and all rounder and who can be fitted into any organization where management practices are being carried out (Covell 2002

Going back to the roots , managerialism has a deep link with public administration . Previously it was thought that public agencies carry out the agenda of the government with the help of policies , which are applied in an efficient way . This also led to the concept of civil service but from 1920 onwards things started to change as the concept of admisitrationism vanished and managerialism started to take its place because masses began abhorring the red tape and in efficiency coming in the public departments where bureaucracy was running high and inefficiency was the of the day . A leaf taken from our history describes it very well . The oil crisis in early 1970 's exposed plethora of inefficiencies in the government machinery . People became acerbic to the notoriously slow work attitude and competency shown by the public services agents in their respective department , which led to the promotion of managerialism and it mushroomed in leaps and bounds . The primary reason behind it was the trimming down wastage of resources and increasing the competitiveness and efficiency of the organization (Parks 2006

As managerialism is customer centered , it means that specific needs of the customers are catered instead of offering the same treatment to every one . It applies some basic tools of management such as planning organizing , staffing controlling and budgeting just to make an organization make an organization more effective and efficient .
