Tennis is a sport that is played by lots of people and enjoyed by many more fans . Chris Goldsmith in his article entitled , Mum 's the word - but Stefan Edberg was the best Wimbledon champ ' printed in the Sportingo magazine of 9th June 2008 looks back at the days when Stefan Edberg ruled the courts . He remembers his mother 's keen support of the tennis star mainly as a result of his looks and also because of his charm and gentlemanly behavior

. She would always tune into the radio to capture live broadcasts of his games . The writer recalls Edberg 's style as being unique in that he could serve and volley very well on fast grass courts . He rates him as an all rounder who played very well on any surface without the compromising on the effectiveness of his serves and returns . Stefan was entertaining and wonderful to watch stretching his rivals to breaking point before delivering the ultimate blow to win the game

The writer seems nostalgic as he vividly recaptures the ecstatic mood of the crowds as they cheered on their favorite star as he battled it out on the courts with his perennial rival Boris Becker . The most memorable match to the writer was the Wimbledon final of 1988 which was played over three days due to delays occasioned by heavy rain . The nail biting suspense of the epic final will be remembered by all as Edberg swept past his rival winning three of the four sets played . He later went on to win the next two consecutive finals to make it three in a row . The writer is emphatic that he has not seen such brilliant tennis in a long time
