The epistles of first and second Timothy and the epistle of Titus grasps the ideal character fit for a minister of the gospel . In these epistles , Paul compels Timothy and Titus to become who he depicts as a fitting preacher of the word of the God . The qualifications of a minister , as portrayed in these epistles are the following

A minister should understand the word of God

- 1 Timothy 1 :7

A minister should lead a serene and agreeable life - 1 Timothy 2 :2

A minister should be honest and devoted . - 1Timothy 2 :2

A minister should be modest and free from vice - 1 Timothy 3-8

A minister should not give in to temptation , but lead his congregation to the word of God - 1 Timothy 4 :1-6

A minister should set an example , in his way of thinking , actions , and behavior he should take pride in his work as a laborer of God and submit himself wholly for this purpose - 1 Timothy 12-16

A minister should live in the righteousness of the Lord , exhibit faith love , patience and modesty - 1 Timothy 6 :11

A minister should exemplify or feel , and endure the sufferings of Jesus Christ when he gave his life for mankind - 2 Timothy 8-12

A minister should spread the word and urge other men to also teach the gospel - 2 Timothy 2 :2

A minister should not preach blasphemous or abortive teachings - 2 Timothy 2 :16

A minister should stray away from everything evil , sinful , vicious , and injustice - 2 Timothy 2 :19

A minister should keep his faith and stand his ground even if no one hears or no one listens he should fight for God and his word and not be swayed by backsliding - 2 Timothy 4 :1-5
