Probation and parole are programs that are used to handle adults and juveniles who have been convicted . Sometimes judge sentences offenders to prison incarceration and are jailed for a period of time or sometimes they may suspend this sentence when the offender complies with certain given conditions . Sometimes judges sentence offenders to serve a given period of years in prison but they only serve a portion of that time under the authorization of parole boards (Abdinsky .
