Name November 23 , 2008 Special Education Survey of Moderate and Severe Disabilities The ecological model examines the development of a child within the context of the relationship between the child and his or her environment . Each aspect of the environment has some effect on the development of an individual child . The biological aspect is of great importance to consider when discussing child development . The factors that determine maturation are in direct correlation with a child 's family and community environment as well as his or her sociological environment . The

interaction of these different environments can have either positive or negative effects on child development . There are five systems that must be analyzed in terms of the ecological model
The first is the microsystem and this is the environment closest to the child . This is an environment that a child has direct contact with . It includes such aspects as family , friends , school , neighborhood and /or child care . The influence of people within these different aspects can have a direct influence on a child . The way a child behaves and what he or she believes comes from direct contact with others in the microsystem . This leads to the second system which is the mesosystem and incorporates relationships among those in the microsystem . For example the relationship between a child 's parents and teacher would be considered part of the mesosystem
The exosystem encompasses influences that a child is not directly exposed to but still have an effect . Examples would include the work...
