Special education , or SpEd as it is more commonly referred to , is a specific field of education that deals with students or individuals that have special needs . These individuals may include those with learning differences , mental problems or diss , physical disabilities

SpEd recognizes the fact that these individuals do not fall within the norm and as such require different teaching and educational attention thus a more appropriate setting is developed for them . Behavior-wise , these would be manifested in a student through symptoms like an inability to focus attentively on a particular matter , frequency of performing unwarranted mistakes , avoidance of activity that necessitates prolonged mental exertion , and swift distraction from activities engaged in . Individuals diagnosed with ADHD often long for constant excitation and stimulation which is why they always want to be in a constant state of motor activity . Perseverance at a given task is not a problem for individuals with ADHD . There are those that insist that ADHD is not a distinct neuropsychological or psychiatric dis because of the overlap of its symptoms with other psychopathologies and diss . These individuals state that ADHD is , in fact , just a set of symptoms grouped together .
