The first post apartheid or colonialism government in South Africa took power in 1994 . This was after a general election in which South Africans expressed their dissatisfaction with the colonial rule by Britain . Since this moment , South African education has been undergoing continuous reforms to get rid of the ties within the sector that were endorsed and practiced by their colonial powers . The enlightment efforts were aimed at

attaining international levels and standards of education . South Africa saw the move important to act as a model for the rest of the nations that were undergoing a transition from colonialist educational patterns to liberal and sovereign educational provisions .
