The Souls of the Black Folk Even before the Civil Rights Movement was born to ban racial discrimination against African-Americans , the battle for pushing for equality has been an active cry when slavery cannot be tolerated any longer . Indeed the abolition of slavery in 1863 by Abraham Lincoln stopped the slavery expansion throughout the United States however discrimination itself continue to pose as a challenge until this modern time . In 1903 , African-American writer W .E .B . Dubois wrote Souls of the Black Folk which reflected that though discrimination can be wiped off

br by constitutional laws , the smallest detail of everyday life portrayed the misplaced role of the black people in American society
