Cultural Sensitivity

Culture differs from one person to another . People act and react according to their cultural background . For example , a person who had been raised strictly under the Christian culture would be disgusted to hear about cannibalism . On the other hand , the people who had practice cannibalism in the past would not be affected as much . Taking this into account , a researcher who conducts a study of a society different from his own must be sensitive regarding the difference in culture between him and the subjects

The first one is concerned about the use of the terms . People tend to use words to explain themselves in the context of their language . Nevertheless , once a person is engage in a study that involves people from different culture , the terms must be used with reference to the cultural context of the subjects . This will not only yield a more accurate result and understanding about the culture of the people involved in the study , it also creates a more fluid relationship between the researcher and the subjects .
