THE PREVALENCE OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Domestic violence , or domestic abuse , takes place when there is an attempt to dominate by one partner , family member , or ex-partner over another , either physically of psychologically . It take the most common form in the violence between the spouses , however , the term may include cohabitants , common-law intimate partners , and the like . Hence , we hear of the terminologies as husband

beating , battering , and domestic abuse among others

There has been a recent outcry of domestic violence brought about by the feminist or women 's movement , culled as violence against women There is an attempt to equate domestic violence to gender bias , women being the popular victims of this type of violence . However , a closer look to the nature of this type of violence would reveal that men are likewise victimized . Hence , the limitations of domestic violence to women have been contested by the so-called men 's rights movement

Domestic violence is present in almost all cultures , races ethnicities , religions , and classes . At times , these can be perpetrators of domestic violence . It takes different forms and ways of commission from place to place , country to country . At most times , domestic violence is not reported nor documented and remained perpetrated in several homes . According to Centers for Disease Control , domestic violence is a serious , preventable public health problem affecting more than 32 million Americans , or more than 10 of the U .S . Population

Domestic violence has several form of being committed . It includes acts of physical violence , sexual abuse , emotional abuse , intimidation economic deprivation or threats of violence . Studies show that women are preponderantly the victims and men more violent . However , some studies would also show that both sexes are equally violent

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE : TRENDS AND STATISTICS

Reports on the details and nature of domestic violence have far been disclosed . Police authorities has heretofore been receiving complaints and cases where parties have become courageous enough to disclose what are happening inside the domestic setting . And the complaints continue to arise out of various nature and cases , and its number has been fast increasing . This prompted the authorities , and concerned individuals to further their information and determination of the cases of domestic violence to determine its nature , causes and extent . Indeed , the system is quite systemic , as there has been a uniform pattern as to who is the oppressor , who is the victim , what are the causes , among others . With such structure , we are stamped with a basic fact that violence could be in a way structured in the domestic setting . Domestic violence may only be treated if and when proper authorities are cognizant of the seriousness in that the system of violence within the family home ' may be treated , if not prevented
