This research is a study of environmental sustainability with reference to society . Beginning with the premise that the society and the environment are dependent upon each other , the reviews key environmental threats as well as the relationship between environment and society to answer the fundamental question : How shall society

react to environmental threats , and move toward environmental sustainability Before answering this question , however , the provides a thorough of environmental sustainability

Introduction

Society and the environment are dependent upon each other , which is to say that no definition of society is complete without consideration of the environment where the society is built , and no definition of the environment is possible without taking into account the effects of the society upon the environment . Environments where human beings are not known to make an impact are similarly studied with respect to the living beings that occupy the environment . To put it other way , life is responsible for creating its environment , just as the environment is responsible for shaping the behaviors of the groups of living beings that occupy the environment

Seeing that life and environment are inseparable , environmentalists refer to environmental sustainability with special reference to human groups because it is humans alone that have the intelligence on the planet to either sustain or corrupt the environment . Environmental sustainability is the maintenance of balance of natural resources within the environment , without which life on earth cannot be sustained . The resources in question include human life elements necessary to maintain living conditions of humans and other species environmental procedures that renew resources such as water , climate , and air and containing the depletion of resources that preserve quality of life in society , such as oil , coal , etc (Sutton . In principle , therefore , environmental sustainability includes areas relevant to resources , energy and their management sanitation recycling the prevention of pollution and innovating technology for cleaner environment keeping socio-economic and legal constraints in view

An environment under threat is a society under threat . An environment is said to be facing a sustainability threat when present habits , lifestyle , or the usage manner of resources of society is hazardous to long term existence of the resources , and so , these resources are feared to be depleted in future . This is when policies and programs are formed to use the resources in question efficiently so that future generations may also benefit from them as have past generations

Environmental threats may be related to a particular society or could have global implications . Depletion of natural resources or any risks to the natural environment mean that an entire social setting is at risk . An environmental threat could greatly affect the lives of people belonging to the social setting in the environment in question It is no surprise that an environmental threat may additionally impact the economic stability...
