To say that something is a primary source simply means that it is a document that was recorded at approximately the same timeframe as the event being described . A good example of this is a news article or personal interview that depicts a very recent event . This is different from a secondary source , which generally uses primary and other secondary sources to create a work of historical interest . According to the writer 's manual of Boston College , a structured questionnaire is

one in which the questions asked are precisely decided in advance . When used as an interviewing method , the questions are asked exactly as they are written , in the same sequence , using the same style , for all interviews . theless , the structured questionnaire can sometimes be left a bit open for the interviewer to amend to suit a specific context

The reason for using a structured questionnaire is that hopefully the responses will be better tailored to establish a concise report than if a less structured questionnaire were used . This means that structured questionnaires are often a better tool for researchers in that they contain well-thought out questions , arranged in such a way that the responses should come in a directed

What sets Quantitative Research apart from its counterpart , Qualitative Research , is that the first type generally attempts to gather large amounts of data that are gathered in a manner that is fairly reliable and can be easily replicated . For instance , if general knowledge of a particular , that is to say statistics , are desired , a survey can be a very good way to obtain this information . However , the numbers and often very basic responses are not capable of depicting the motivations behind such responses , nor are they helpful in determining behaviors that contribute to them this is what Qualitative Research is used for In-depth interviews are a good way to obtain qualitative data and are generally more capable of eliciting information of behavior , motivation and attitude
