Crime in the United States of America has risen as a result of the increased problems in the lives of individuals and the community Problems , which are social , economical and psychological in nature , have increased in the past years . Despite that , there are genetic and biological factors that are associated with criminal behaviors environment is a major contribution to crime . People who grow up in violent backgrounds have high chances of continuing with criminal behaviors in later years , in their lives . Dysfunctional lifestyles such

as family disintegration , poverty , discrimination also leads to the development of criminal behavior in many individuals . The United States of America has experienced a tremendous growth in the urban underclass people , in many years . Areas with high rates of poverty have also increased extensively in the past years meaning that most young people are joining gangs . Many young people are dropping out of school and also there are large numbers of people who are unemployed and dropping out of jobs . Two of the major causes of crime in the United States of America are the emergence and the spread of the urban underclass leading to increase of minority and disorganized communities that have many people who are unemployed and marginalized . The poor are also increasingly isolated in ghettos leading to the formation of gang violence (Hagan pp56-57
