Social inequality is a phenomenon that is common in most societies in the world . It is relative to the social structure of particular group of persons ability to access materials benefits necessary for their well being . Social inequality is defined by Adams et al (2000 ) as difference in people at given society to access or acquire material possessions in a stratified hierarchy . This occurs at any given period where individuals can obtain or get the possession while others can not by virtue of their positions or hierarchical level

America is the world richest country in the world . It has the largest number of rich people who own great wealth in the world . But on the other hand it has historical evidence of social injustice that have persistent from colonial times up to the present . This has occurred through years which has been supported by legal rules and government policies that have favored a certain group of people than others Historically , the African American who worked as slaves have suffered the most the brunt of social inequality in America . This is evident in cases like lack of access to basic education , health , public facilities and social amenities . Literature sources indicate that the African American and native Americans as well as minority groups suffered segregation and discrimination in a number of ways . To begin with , during the early settlement of the New Englanders who settled in American north were liberals who esteemed literacy as a basic necessity used for religious purposes . They build schools to educate their children . Schools served as served as supplementary teaching institutions for their children . Native Americans and African American were not given such chances . They were considered inferior and could not benefit from education . Over time as more changes in economic tauts of the north and need for knowledge and increased pressure from a section of the people (whit reformist . Schools were built for the African American and other minority groups but they could not attend schools with white children . Their schools contained curriculum that did not teach same subjects as white schools . The curriculum were based in moral teaching and preparing the the black children and native American for manual work . This thus established a continued social status that is unequal
