Social Perception of Contraceptive Use

Introduction

The increase in population had been used to justify the integration of contraceptive methods to the reproductive health programs of governments . However , the most important thing to consider is that contraception affects a very private and intimate aspect of the person and the decision to use contraception still depends on the individual alone . Health organizations have campaigned and promoted the use of contraceptives to prevent against unwanted pregnancies and even sexually transmitted diseases . However , most people still use contraceptives to prevent pregnancy because the only contraceptive that can prevent sexually transmitted diseases is the condom . It has been assumed that with the inclusion of contraception to sex education in schools adolescents would be smarter . But the rise in teenage pregnancy still is evident and it implies that most adolescents do not use contraception or if they do it is used incorrectly . This mini-survey tries to find out the views , thoughts and feelings of college freshmen about contraception Methods

Six college freshmen were surveyed using the researcher made questionnaire . The respondents were approached by the researcher and informed consent was given . There were 4 females and 2 males , age ranged from 19 to 22 , all were enrolled in the current semester . The questionnaire contained 6 open-ended questions that asked the respondents about their thoughts and feelings on contraceptive use , its effectiveness and disadvantages . The responses was tallied and analyzed by identifying common responses and least common responses

Discussion

The results indicate that 3 out of 4 of the females used birth control pills while the 2 males used condom . One female said that she did not use any contraception . When asked to share how they felt about using contraception , the one female who did not use any contraceptive believed in abstinence . The rest were fairly positive about using contraception In terms of who was responsible for using contraception , it seemed that respondents identified their own sex as the one responsible on the other hand , the one who believed in abstinence said that both should be responsible for...
