This is a review of the book entitled Who Rules America Power , Politics and Social

Change ( 5th edition ) by William Domhoff . The book deals with an incisive analysis of who holds

power in American society and how the economy and wealth in the U .S . has taken place in the hands

of the few and influenced by the ones who hold that power . The book serves as an excellent

reference for students studying politics and power . Students and readers will realize how the

corporate elite influence the

U .S . economic system and create wide difference in power among

the social strata of the U .S . populace . The author , William G . Domhoff is a known social scientist ( sociologist ) and has written a number of books on political and social power . He is a professor of

Sociology since 1965 at University of California , Sta . Cruz and received a number of awards due to

his writings and published books after his retirement from teaching . He was born into a non-

political middle American family of what they consider Midwest U .S . or Ohio . He is an alumnus of

Duke University and got his Masters at Kent State University and doctorate degree from University

of Miami . William G . Domhoff has published 19 books dealing on policymaking in the U .S . and in

the method of power research theory . His style of writing and presentation of facts is consistent in all . He reveal information and facts from his social research in such a

manner that it can be easily understood and assimilated by ordinary reader as in the case of Who

Rules America : Politics , Power and Social Change ( 4th and 5th editions and How Policy is Made in

America (1990 . His s on power , politics and social stratification are known s and

informational knowledge but the manner by which it is presented to the reader is scholarly and

left no stones unturned to justify his statements and the veracity of his claims . The reader is left in

awe and wonder how he get the facts accurately . Suffice it to say that this is his strength being a

seasoned social researcher and a professor

In his book Who Rules America ( 5th edition , the author presented the source of power and Social Inequality 2

influence in America . According to him , there are three power indicators in America . The first is

Who Benefits , second is Who Governs ' and third is Who Wins The author argued that he

who have the money have the power and influence . This is the fulcrum or the theme of the book

and everything written by the author revolve around this thesis statement . He completed Chapter 1

by summarizing the main points of the book and successfully instilling in the mind of the reader that

there exist a so called social classes ' or group diversification based on acquired wealth in
