Varying scholars have given varying definitions to social inequalities in terms of what it encompasses or covers . In her book `social ethical and policy implication of information technology , social inequalities in the society covers inequalities of political influence , wealth and income or both as well as inequalities of standing among other members in society (Brennan L and Johnson V , 2003 . To some , social inequalities are healthy in society and hence morally acceptable . Some scholars argue that there is

a difference between social inequalities and economic inequalities in the sense that the latter only focuses on differences in wealth and income or resources while the former deals with the attainment of vital social services like education and health as well as the influence one has on the society . This will focus on social inequalities and its relationship with economic inequalities

In the book `the archeology of rank ' Wason defines social inequality as a `moral , behavioral , interactional and existential phenomenon . It is viewed as a moral phenomenon as people tend to evaluate each other . It is behavioral as people act in accordance to the respective evaluations Social inequality is viewed as interactional as people act depending on their interpersonal relationships . It also adopts a materialistic aspect as it encompasses the various approaches to the acquisition or accessibility of goods and services as well as opportunities .
