Social factors play an essential role in the lives of almost all individuals . A person 's environment as well as the people around him or her has an impact in the attitude and behavior of a person . Suicide is

defined as the voluntary act of killing oneself . It is a fatal , self-inflicted destructive act with explicit or inferred intent to die . It is sometimes called suicide completion (Boyd 256 . Suicide is not a new phenomenon as it is considered as one of the major problems concerning mental health today . It usually occurs in most developed or first class countries . Except for people with a very young age , this mental health problem happens in all age groups , social classes as well as cultures . The Nature of Suicide

The nature of this mental health problem stipulates that it could happen in almost all ages . As such , children and adolescents could also commit suicide . It is very unusual for children who are younger than 10 years old to commit suicide . Nevertheless , children who are 10 to 14 years of age is more susceptible in committing suicide , which is proven by the reports that it is the third leading cause of death in the United States that accounts for 7 .2 of all deaths in this particular age group . According to statistics , boys in this age bracket most commonly commit this incident as they account for 79 of the these 79 , most of them are Caucasian boys . Suicide is also considered as the second leading reason as to why Native American boys with the age range of 10 to 14 years old died . According to Emile Durkheim , social integration is an important factor in understanding suicide . Even though he does not explicitly define the term social integration it plays a pivotal role in his study . Being the case , he was able to establish the relation between individual suicide and the society . Durkheim employed the concept of social integration in The Division of Labor wherein he emphasized how social links is capable of attaching individuals to social groups that are apart from themselves .
