Social and Ethnic sensibility in Benjamin Disraelis Novels

SOCIAL AND ETHNIC SENSIBILITIES OF BENJAMIN DISRAELI 'S NOVELS

2009 ABSTRACT

The novels of Benjamin Disraeli , the only Jewish Prime Minister of England , depict the social and political conditions during the Victorian period . His work describes the plight of the middle class , the disparity of living conditions between the rich and the poor , the role of women in society , the Young England and Chartist movements , and the stubborn notion that the aristocrats were the best class and sector to rule society . While Disraeli 's works provided a view of the

socio-political conditions during the Victorian era , they were also highly criticized for being a form of literary propaganda to further Disraeli 's own political ambitions , and that the ideals and ideologies discussed by Disraeli did not result in any practical or concrete political programs that could solve the problems and issues plaguing England during that period TABLE OF CONTENTS
