Abstract

Deafness has great impact on ones social development . Since social skills are acquired during early developmental stages deaf children especially those with hearing parents are the most affected . This is because such parents often speak to their deaf children rather than listen to them . Deaf children with deaf parents , on the other hand benefit from the use of sign language , their native language , and tend to acquire social skills earlier enough . This

paper looks at the factors affecting social development in the deaf , with emphasis on the effects of such factors in the early stage of development . Highlighted factors include the choice of school , parental or familial , and peer interactions . Also discussed in this paper is the usefulness of early cochlea implantation for remedying language disorder in deaf and children with hearing impairment
