As the population for these ethnic and cultural minority groups increases , the opportunity for education , shelter , employment gradually become limited . Not only does these factors limit them to

fight poverty , but also , several Americans attitude and prejudice on them
Racism has been one of the major hindrances for these groups of the American population . The ethnic and cultural minority groups are judge mainly because of their race , color , culture and are treated indifferently . Racism dates back centuries ago when ethnic and cultural minority groups are treated as slaves that created a mentality for some Americans . This factor has been considered one of the prime movers for poverty with respect to this segment of the United States ' population These groups especially those who have strive to have an education often are placed on low paying jobs or are not even get hired without prior consideration . With many of these working class are underemployed , or worst , are unemployed . Thus , many are below the poverty threshold in the set by the United States
According to a 2006 study , the population of children ages 18 years and under composed by the African-American (33 , Native American (27 ) and Latinos (28 ) as compared to only 10 of the whites are under poverty Numbers don 't only prove that racism provokes poverty . Also geographical areas in which they reside also showed consequently the areas of poverty that has been the result of decades of policies confining these isolated areas
Though policies had been created against racism , some mentalities never changed and are coherent to some . And with these ethnic and cultural minorities continuing their luck and future in the United States , the American dream ' is yet to be achieved
