About one-seventh of all tobacco-related deaths are from passive smoking or `second-hand smoking ' or `environmental tobacco smoke More than 434 , 000 people die in the US from tobacco-related illnesses and 62 , 000 are in fact second-hand smokers . As tobacco is detrimental to the health of innocent people , there should be a strong initiative to prevent other people from developing illnesses related to smoking Besides , it is also the duty for

the government and other organizations to provide the people (including workers , employees , etc ) with a cleaner environment to function in . The EPA itself considers that indoor pollution occurring at home or the workplace to be a top-five risk in killing people . The air especially in bars is 4 to 6 times more polluted than offices and 4 to 4 .5 times more polluted than homes Employees working in bars have 50 higher risks of suffering from lung cancers . This is because the smoke emitted from tobacco products contains known carcinogens which can be detrimental to the health of others . The CDC has also considered that second-hand smoking be considered as a potential occupational hazard and be removed from workplaces by the employers . One of the states which lead in banning smoking at all public places including restaurants and bars is New York which has introduced the New York State Amended its Clean Indoor Air Act (Public Health Law , Article 13-E , way back in 2003 .
