1 . Given the attention that crime prevention has received in previous years , each community and area has been given the choice of a number of systems to implement . Of the available options , the community that I reside in decided to adopt the Neighborhood Watch Program

2 . The implementation of a system such as the Neighborhood Watch Program essentially seeks to prevent crime rather than respond to it . There was no specific reason for my community to adopt this measure . There have been some petty crimes committed over the years

but nothing that is directly related to the implementation of this program . The reason for implementing this system stems from the desire to nip possible criminal activity in the bud and hopefully guide potential criminals down more socially appropriate paths

3 . Yes , I think the program has been successful

4 . The program is designed to assist the members of the community look after each other and report any suspicious activities to the local police . The participation of the whole community in the program creates a sense of unity and trust . A phone tree is set up if there is any major incident to report and property engraving is undertaken to help retrieve stolen property . This kind of system instills a sense of responsibility in the members of a community and this dedication to keeping a watch on the area deters crimes from being committed .
