There are many detective stories , horror ones , love ones as well as way to many writers who try to capture our attention with all the possible means and mostly unsuccessfully . But there are beloved writers who craft special stories and Mary Clark is one of such writers , writers of suspense , who created a very special tale about the power of love , and of a child 's courage and faith

The story tells the readers about an ordinary family suffering from a tragedy . When her husband was diagnosed

with leukemia , Catherine Dornan and their two young sons went with him to New York , during the Christmas season , for a life-saving operation . Hoping to redirect the boys from worry about their father , and to moderate her own near misery , on Christmas Eve Catherine takes the boys to see Rockefeller Center 's famous Christmas tree . When they stop to listen to a street musician Brian , the younger boy , sees a woman take his mother 's wallet , which holds a valuable memento his grandmother has just given them , a St Christopher medal that rescued her husband 's life in World War II , and which she and Brian believe protects his father 's life

Unable to get his mother 's attention , Brian spontaneously follows the woman who has taken the wallet into the city 's subways , thus beginning a journey that will threaten his life and change that of his mother and of the thief , as well . Without thinking or being afraid of what might happen next he followed the girl that took his mother 's purse thinking he would be brave like his older brother Michael

The book about the adventures of this little but so strong boy is written with warmth , telling about courage in the face of adversity , and faith renewed and faith rewarded . The little boy frightened to death is lead by his only idea : he has to get the medal back and that 's all Brian thinks of . The horrifying ride he was got into could be Brian 's last But the boy turns out to be a brave one in spite of his young age

From the beginning word to the last , there is never a boring moment in Silent Night . The mood through out the book is hopeful and the readers watch the adventures of the little boy with irritation

Mary Higgins Clark uses innocent childern , obedient to their mother , and puts them into a scary , yet real world situations . Many childern , good or bad , are kidnapped in this society . Silent Night shows the happy ending from a particular situation

The boy seems to be like a slave of the medal . He closes his hand over it and mentally pictures the strong saint who carries the little kid across the dangerous river . He imagines the saint to take care of his grandfather , to make his dad better . Brian has a strong faith of a piece of medal . The boy risked his own life...
