There are several differences which can be observed between the Cold War era and Multi-polar system . This can be seen in terms of emulation flexibility and power balances

During the period of Multi-polar system , states had to emulate the practices of the leading states for security reasons (Waltz , 1979 Failure to emulate other states made them more vulnerable to violence The states depended on each other to survive . By emulating other states they formed alliances and this led to improvements in the military and economic strengths . On the other hand , in the Bipolar system , since it involved two superpower states emulation by these states was not a necessity .
