Almost every household these days possess their own television sets . Some children even have their own sets inside their rooms . Compared to other types of advertising , the television is the most accessible type for young people

The most alarming unhealthy ' advertising that media shows and brings concern is violence . Violence can be seen through numerous television shows or video games and young people are exposed to these types of media every day of their lives . If they get used to the idea of violence and they are led to believe that violence is cool or fun , they might think that there is nothing wrong with it and might actually perform violent acts

The easiest unhealthy ' advertising to combat is sex . Teenagers although majority of them engage in sexual activities early in their teenage years , know very little about sex , contraception , and diseases If the government , the media , and their parents work together to educate them , these young people would become more responsible with their actions when it comes to sex

4 . The article makes eight recommendations for pediatricians on how they could lessen any potential negative impact of advertising on children and teens . Assume the recommendations could be broader applied to parents , citizens , etc . Which two recommendations do you think would be the most effective ? List each and explain why

First , parents and the general public should remain knowledgeable about the effects of television , including violent and aggressive behavior , obesity , poor body concept and self-image , substance abuse and early sexual activity ' because if they are not aware of the negative effects that the media can bring to children they would not know that there is something wrong and that there is a need for guidance and monitoring

The second recommendation is that everyone should make an effort to be involved and learn how to work effectively with , directors and producer to make media more appropriate for children and adolescents ' Being involved can make people understand better how the media works . Also , through involvement , they can suggest and recommend ways on how to improve television shows or advertisements so that children have better examples and role models to watch and appreciate
