Feminist movement has gathered a large following these days and had , for themselves , achieved the goals that they set out from the beginning - equality . Various movements have flourished utilizing in their discourse and arguments philosophical ideas of female philosophers who pioneered feminism with the publication of their views and opinions

One of these highly

regarded feminist philosophers was Luce Irigaray who published many essays critiquing the role of women in society and gender differences . Her essay An Ethics of Sexual Difference ' is the main subject of this . An analysis and interpretation of this essay would be guided by the following questions

What is the problem

What are the arguments in reference to Irigaray views

What are the possible objections to Irigaray 's ideas

Upon explaining the above questions , I would also impart my own opinion and ideas in relation Irigaray 's views and ideas

To start this essay , a brief introduction of the author , Luce Irigaray is essential , to be able to form a background of her beliefs and understand the foundation of her ideas and opinions . In some instances getting to know the writer gives us a better understanding of her written materials

She was quoted saying that she doesn 't want people to know her personal life since critics might use it against her arguments , being that she is a woman , and she is writing a controversial issue about the male and the female . Thus she wants to reduce bias and focus on herself , but rather on her writings only . This proclamation by Irigaray led to very few interviews and detailed biographical articles (if there were any ) about her . She went to the famous Ecole de Freudian de Paris (Freudian School in Paris ) in the 1960s , where she undertook for herself the ideas of its founder psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan . She was later ostracized by the Lacanian community when she published in 1974 the thesis she made while at Ecole Speculum , de l 'autre femme or Speculum of the Other Woman . Here she discussed the ridiculous phallo - centrism of Freudian and Lacanian psychoanalysis

As of 2001 , Irigaray is the Director of Research in Philosophy at the Centre National de la Recherchy Scientifique in Paris
