Sigmund Freud once noted that the sex instinct is the most powerful of all human instincts and that it is the driving force of all human activity . In defining sex drive , Sigmund grouped it with the other survival instincts exhibited by human beings . His definition has however come under criticism as this paper shows in a moment . The paper sets out to examine the issue of sex instinct in

different women across a variety of ethnic divides . In so doing , a more nuanced definition of `sex drive is attempted as the Freudian definition has been found to be fraught with many limitations . It is shown here that sex drive is mainly determined by the levels of estrogens in a woman 's system and that all the other factors are linked to it
