Open your computer 's web browser by double clicking on either the Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox icon (or an alternate browser you may be using
Press the control ' key while clicking on this text HYPERLINK "http /www .literature .org " http /www .literature .org / to access the link
A new window will open with the website visible . Click on the link in the middle of the page titled Authors Index
A new page will appear with a list of all authors who have works on the website . Scroll through the list to find the one you are seeking . For instance , the piece of literature we will be examining is Edgar Allan Poe . The list is alphabetical by last name so this author can be found toward the bottom of the list . Click on his name
After clicking on the author 's name , a new page will appear which lists all of the author 's works available on this website . Click on the appropriate story . In the example of Edgar Allan Poe , we will be reading The Pit and the Pendulum
The complete work will open up on a new page . Use the scroll bar at the right to move down and access the entire text as you read
Some works listed on this site or broken up by chapter . When you click on one of these stories , the page will list the chapters in . You must click on each chapter link in to access the full text
If you prefer reading the text in Word instead of with your browser simply click anywhere within the story . Then press the control ' key and the a ' key at the same time . This will select all the text
Next , click the control ' key while simultaneously pressing the c key . This will copy the entire selection
Finally , open Microsoft Word using either the start menu if the icon is pinned to it or click on All Programs ' from the start menu and locate Microsoft Office /Word . Open a blank Word document and paste your selection by clicking the control ' key and the v ' key simultaneously
