Paper Topic:

Serial Killers

Abstract

The purpose of the research proposal is to develop techniques that will establish if ever the bad experiences of serial killers made them to be serial killers . The approach is a detailed investigative survey using questions relevant to gather information regarding the study 's objective . The research will give light on how killers are molded into who they turned out to be and will be informative for future investigations and studies

Statement of the Problem

This proposal raises the issue about whether serial killers are born with the urge

to kill or were induced by past experiences and other external factors . The source of their urge to murder people can help a great deal about tracing the blueprint of their crimes . Researches and studies had already been done to determine the reasons and motivations behind the serial killers ' murders . Psychologists had already tried to explain the possible stimulus that triggered them to exhibit the dreadful behavior . Some said that the killers were once victims of abuse and maltreatment , their experiences of which turned them into murderers to take revenge (Leyton , 1986 . However , an argument could arise since not all abused individuals during their childhood days became serial killers . This implies that there is something inside the head or something in the personality of these murderers that compelled them to do such crimes , in addition to their mere past experiences This would mean that relying on the available information of a killer 's background is not enough to define his or her present behavior Investigators often fail to employ more intensive exploration of the criminal 's past records , usual whereabouts , and detailed lifestyle Many do not use these pieces of information to trace the outline of the killer 's pattern of murderous acts nor relate them to how the person ended up being a killer . The help of psychologists , psychiatrists , and prors are still important to solve this argument . Merely knowing the basic background information about the killers is not enough . There is usual failure to synthesize all the gathered information altogether Many do not realize that this can make the pieces reveal a bigger picture of what really happened in the crime scene , and probably what more could happen . This approach can help an investigator or a psychologist come up with even more modified approaches for different kinds of serial killers (Simpson , 2000

Literature Review

Robert Ressler , an agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation , and Dr . Robert Keppel were the first ones to discover the term serial killer during the 1970 's . The term was first coined to describe the widely-known crimes of Ted Bundy and David Berkowitz (Norris , 1989

Serial killers are those who murder a number of individuals within a certain span of time . They , also called serial murderers , kill people in different events with a period of interval between the killings These intervals are often referred to as emotionally cool-off stages for the criminals . They may be as long as several years or months , or...
