Additionally , it is up to the students , in either group or individual settings , to determine whether and in what ways a particular subordinate contribution belongs with and relates to the main concept . Semantic webs may take the form of various organizational patterns , including some kind of hierarchy depicting one word or a brief phrase . Semantic webbing has been shown to be more effective than traditional note taking or rereading material (Hams Sipay , 1990 however , this technique should be used in conjunction with other strategies to ensure the most success
