The Cloze Test Introduction In University of Cambridge , they are giving a Cambridge International Examination (CIE ) on International General Certificate for Secondary Education (IGCSE ) for those who chooses English as their second language ( ESL . IGCSE has different certification level and one of it was ) level . Under this level , the IGCSE has been designed for 14 to 16 year olds . Students who obtain an IGCSE qualification from Cambridge are prepared for further academic success The cloze test are is one of the type of test given on certification This test measures

the ability of the student to comprehend texts that are given to them . This test consist of paragraphs where certain words were left blank for the students to fill up . They have to put the choose a word they think that best fit to complete the sentence
In this , I have prepared three text which I think best for 0 level certification . This was chosen because the wordings where not too complicated for those students that will take the examination
The first text is a that students discusses in elementary . The words were not too hard for the students to understand . It uses simple nouns and verbs that is not very difficult for them to comprehend . But for sure it will measure their ability to comprehend and analyse sentences
The second and third text comes from students ' experience . Especially we are thinking of including the text for a cloze test text for 14-16 years old . Students under this age are experiencing this activity so it is possible that they can be able to understand and comprehend the text
A . The three suitable text for cloze test
1 . Lessons from a Grass
The lowly grass has some lessons to teach . While many think of weeds as useless , they really are not . First of all , they prevent the loss of fertile soil . They cover the earth and when it rains hard their roots hold on to the soil so that the water does not wash it away
They also serve as food to grass-eating animals . Cows would have nothing to eat if there were weeds . So the lowly grass is useful after all . Doing what one can do to help others is one lesson we can learn from it
Then , too the weeds that grow along the highways and seaside may not be tall like trees but they are strong . People step on them . Animals eat and trample on them . Yet they continue to grow . They spring back after we step on them . They lift their head and return to their original form when we are gone . From them we can learn to overcome hardship . They teach us not to get discourage
