Freedom , as defined in the electronic article Liberty (2005 , is being able to act freely as one chooses to do so . In a sense , it is when people are able to attain a sense of liberty in their actions , also called individual freedom ( Liberty ' 2005 . In the past , a lot of countries had the aspirations of capturing other countries for purposes of spices , new lands

, and power . They resorted to a lot of means to colonize one country and some had succeeded for a while . It has become a situation where the freedom of people was held in the hands of the few and foreign people . However , as time stood by , countries became revolutionary one by one . A long battle had gone , some were shorter than the others , but all of them gained the much-aspired sense of freedom

Indeed , the definition given from the dictionary above had a general implication that it covers much of what freedom is all about . In the TV series , Prisonbreak , there were eight prisoners who were able to free themselves from their cells with the ingenuity of one of their members They made it through the high level of security and they were able to set their foot outside the grounds of the prison . Now , one could ask Did they attain freedom because they were able to free themselves from the prison ' In fact , they gained freedom from the cold cells and bunk beds inside the prison but they never gained freedom as prisoners . They had the chance to break free from the things that were in the prison but they remained at large and thus , did not have their freedom from the crimes they committed . They can not do a lot of things that a free citizen could do

The definition of freedom given by the dictionary should go further into stating that there is no such thing as absolute freedom . People are given the chance to do whatever they want to do but this option is coupled with responsibilities and obligations . From a personal experience , I can always grab my sibling 's favorite toy when we were young but I have to be responsible for the distress I cause my sibling Further , I have to be responsible for anything that happens to the toy while it is in my possession . In line with this , there is also an obligation to make up for the negative feelings and events that might occur because of what I did . In a sense , I am given the chance to do whatever it is I want to do , because I have the freedom to do so , but it is also coupled with a lot of consequences that may be good , bad , or both
