Introduction of E-banking service in hsbc and its impacts on the functioning model of a Bank in UK 2006 I . Introduction E-commerce and dotcom companies have changed the way businesses conducted in internet era . In 2000 alone , according to one report , the electronic commerce recorded the annual volume estimated to be between 100 billion and 200 billion (Litan 2000 The huge number soon encourages more and more companies from various industries to set up their online stores while generating revenue from it . Nevertheless , great expectations apparently do not come from those

having pure intentions only . The original purpose of providing advanced services through the internet has been tainted with ill schemes and various criminal conducts
In personal banking services , there is discouraging facts as the enthusiasm of the providing online banks faces serious threats as protecting information and contents of their online transaction is prone to duplication or information stealing such as phishing and pharming which effectively damage the image of internet as a safe way to perform e-banking transactions
Concerning this issue , in this , I would like to discuss about the development of e-banking in a UK banking institution , especially HSBS In addition , I also provide the services that HSBC offers in their e-banking services , threats that their customers deal with while doing online transaction and solutions HSBC provide to eliminate the threats
II . Aims and Objectives
The objectives of this are to find things that discuss the practice of e-banking of HSBC . Systematically , we can derive the objectives into several points as following
This aims to explain e-banking : scopes of coverage , benefits for the bank and customers , and its limitations
Using the non-participant observation method , collecting data and analyzing qualitative information from journal , magazine and online materials to reach an understanding about the ability of HSBC to offer various services that customers need through their online banking services
In addition , this also discusses what kind of security issues of e-banking that HSBC customers should deal with and how HSBC as the service provider helps customers to alleviate it
III . Methodology
Basically , there are two types of research methodology they are qualitative and quantitative research . While the quantitative-kind research is carried out through obtaining primary data such as questionnaire , qualitative research is a research that is conducted through interviews and observations . Therefore , the method enables a researcher to explore the details of individual perceptions over phenomena
Concerning the comparison of two kinds of research methodology , in this , I will employ qualitative research methodology , especially non-participant observation method of published materials due to the fact that this method allows researchers to carry out in shorter time that that of quantitative method . In addition , the reason of employing observation in this research is because it enables researchers with an understanding about the perceptions about things or people we observe
