Applying Teaching Techniques in Surfing and Cooking

There are quite a number of things which can be learned in many different ways , and some of them require patience

and determination . But more to that , surfing requires actual practice of what is to be done through a series of trials . The same holds true for cooking meals especially with different types . Like Scudder 's Take this Fish and Look at It ' surfing and cooking meals can be thought through three specific techniques : minute observation , planned absence , and praise Perhaps the extent upon which these techniques can be applied may extend beyond surfing and cooking as the case may be for other competitive sports and other disciplines . Nevertheless , it can hardly be doubted that teaching someone how to surf and cook requires at least one , if not all , of these techniques

As waves and waves of endless ocean may prove to be quite a stretch of obstacles to be conquered , the keen individual may very well understand that these same obstacles are the very elements needed by the best surfers in the world . As for the learner wanting to understand the key concepts in cooking , the person should also embrace the challenges of cooking openly . Before anything else , it should be the case that an individual should have a careful examination of the various elements that come into play as well as an observation of the way in which real surfers ride the waves and master chefs prepare food . One may have the difficulty of achieving the initial objective of learning the basics of cooking and surfing without being acquainted first with the aspects of it . For instance , the `teacher ' can first allow the `learner ' to observe the surfers and take careful note of the way they approach the waves the manner in which they propel their bodies against the current and the force of the sea , and their behaviors once they have already gained control of the surfboard . Or the teacher can first show to the student how to cook a specific meal using specific ingredients and methods

This approach of `minute observation ' may prove daunting at first which may possibly serve as an initial test of patience for the learner while waiting for his chance to take himself out to sea and do what surfers do or to explore the uses of kitchen utensils and purposes of several ingredients . The lack of patience may eventually diminish the interest of the learner , and perhaps prompt him to surfing or cooking . Like Scudder , the learner may have a feeling of desperation and the attitude that the observation is nonsense (Scudder
