School Violence in America

Bullycide

When you think of school shootings or the recent tragedies that have taken place in a classroom setting , undoubtedly one of the first examples that comes to mind is the Columbine incident of 1999 . Perhaps the names Mark Harris and Dylan Klebold are among your thoughts of school shootings and violence . Perhaps the horrors of the Jonesboro massacre come to mind or the Red Lake High School Massacre in 2005 . With the grand publicity of the Columbine High School shootings came a new awareness of the ramifications of bullying , and several

new groups established themselves in the hopes of preventing further egregious acts performed by the victims of such cruelty . While these groups and the media have done a fine job on shedding light on the shootings , the cause of such acts should be given full attention so that further tragedies may be prevented

As later discovered , Mark Harris and Dylan Klebold were the victims of several instances of bullying . In reality they only managed to take the lives of fourteen students , including themselves , and a teacher (Wikipedia , 2003 Bullying has led to many other instances in which extreme measures have been taken . For this reason , awareness must be raised and steps toward prevention should be taken

Two boys pulled a fire alarm and opened fire on a group of students as they gathered outside . The more frightening aspect in this case was the age of the two boys who were only eleven- and thirteen-years-old . Both are now acclaimed as the youngest boys to ever have been charged with murder . They murdered four fellow students wounded twenty , and murdered one teacher in the process . The reason they later claimed , was incessant bullying by their classmates (Wikipedia , 2005

With the numerous instances of death as a result of bullying , the need for an awareness of bullycide has arisen . Bullycide is the defined as suicide or the death of others as the result of bullying . As the definition clearly states , bullycide isn 't always an act of aggression by the victim of the bullying against their tormentors or even random others . In most instances , in fact , the victim will commit suicide or begin several types of self-destructing practices...
