FINAL DISCUSSION : Reflecting on all the s covered over the entire semester , which human rights issue had the greatest impact on you and why

During the course of this class I feel that the issue or case that impacted on me the most was the case Roe v . Wade (1973 . In looking at the historical impact of this ground breaking case , I cannot even begin to imagine what it must have been like as a woman to deal with the emotions and turmoil that surround this very delicate

issue . Roe v Wade gave women the right to decide once and for all that our bodies are ours to choose what we did with them . Prior to this case , laws and the courts saw a woman 's body as the sole property of her husband and he could govern how her body was used . This line of thinking led to unnecessary deaths of women that could have been prevented otherwise Women , according to courts and lawmakers , were the mothers of the nation and as such had to be protected . In reaction to this archaic way of thinking , women activists campaigned for the rights of women everywhere Led by leaders like Margaret Sanger , these heroic women were acting on the behalf of all women everywhere , women who were dying in childbirth or as the result of botched or self-induced abortions (Rowland , 2004 ,
