INTRODUCTION
The German Electronics company , Siemens Ag , has long been known for its leadership in bringing innovative and top quality products to the international market . Made up of several divisions covering various industries including energy , automobile , automation , building , mobility lighting , electronics , IT and network communications the company has for several decades enjoyed an irreproachable reputation when it comes to the quality and performance of its products and services
This dissertation focuses however on the IT and Network Communications division of the company and the related challenges it has had to face in bringing networking and especially VoIP products to market . The document will review several challenges including corporate challenges technology related challenges , and market adoption challenges as they relate to the VoIP products and services of the company for the general consumer as well as for enterprises
Plagued with several corporate scandals touching leading executives at Siemens during the present decade , the company has faced numerous difficulties that have led to some needed restructuring in the company 's executive management and corporate structure . In addition to these scandals , the company has had to cut thousands of jobs in several of its worldwide locations , particularly within their IT division , in to protect the interest of their shareholders . Some of the difficulties encountered by the Siemens company have direct relation with the VoIP segment of the company as a part of the IT division which went through a joint venture with Nokia in 2006 estimated at 30 billion . The joint venture was , in part , an attempt at solidifying Siemens market position in the internet telephony and network communications industry . The joint venture came as a solution to address the losses brought on by the company 's low-margin IT manufacturing division , as a means to face the strategic merger of Alcatel-Lucent , and as a solution to becoming more competitive with regards to other leaders in the segment such as Motorola and Ericsson
In presenting these various challenges , a majority of this dissertation will focus on reviewing and analyzing the above challenges in making qualitative comparisons with other leaders in VoIP , namely the Cisco company , and the Alcatel company which both offer a wide range of products based on VoIP technology .
