SCHOOL VIOLENCE

School Violence

Introduction to the problem

The growing concern about attacks in schools has triggered an equally growing concern on the part of authorities as to how to handle and prevent such attacks or threats to ever happen again . The government therefore - headed by the U .S . Secret Service in collaboration of U .S Department of Education - has created the Safe School Initiative in 2002 . The Initiative is a study focused on school violence or school-based attacks to enable schools , students , and the police , to prevent attacks which in recent decade

have created a pattern of desperate and indiscriminate shootings by aberrant students among school 's teachers and fellow students HYPERLINK "http /www .secretservice .gov /ntac /ssi_final_report .pdf http /www .secretservice .gov /ntac /ssi_final_report .pdf . An examination was conducted which involved the interviews of 10 school shooters , and covered the years starting from 1974 to 2000 . A scrutiny of school records , police records , court documents , and other resources were all done to come up with an understanding of these incidents . As a result of these investigations , authorities were able to identify behavioural patterns existing among schools , students , and teachers involved . This endeavour , for sure , will not guarantee a 100 violence free schools but it will definitely set an atmosphere and momentum of vigilance among the general population of educational institutions . Now , at least authorities are able to identify some patterns like , What are the behaviours and communications of would-be attackers ' Thankfully because of the creation of Safe School Initiative , there are now guidelines available for school 's faculty and students (as well as parents , as they also are crucially involved in watching and reminding their children who go to school everyday to observe and take note of irregular behaviours among students ) that will somehow keep them involved in all these efforts of curtailing this evil trend of school shootings ( HYPERLINK "http /www .secretservice .gov /ntac /ssi_final_report .pdf http /www .secretservice .gov /ntac /ssi_final_report .pdf
