The history of Russia as a country can be adequately said to be one of the most dynamic , courtesy of the fact that it has come from afar . In this sense , the history can be traced back to the East Slavs that had been initially assimilated by Christians who had come from the Eastern Hemisphere of Rome and the Byzantine Empire in 988 . This began a synthesis of Slavic and Byzantine socio-cultural practices that shaped

It is at the 13th century that Moscow gradually emerged as a dominant cultural center . This happened to the effect that by 18th century , the famous historical Grand Duchy of Moscow had waxed into a huge Russian Empire , extending to Poland , going to the east , up to the Pacific Ocean This growth led to the increased awareness of the importance to demarcate itself from the rest of Europe in 19th century
