Introduction

A financial manager in an organization is one who oversees the proper preparation of financial reports , directs investments and directs financial strategies in an organization , his main role is the development of long term financial and investment goals of an organization , and in many organizations he or she is responsible for credit management , risk management and control of forecasts of financial reports

Roles of the financial manager

The roles of a financial manager vary with their title financial managers are credit managers , risk and insurance manager , cash managers

finance or treasurer managers and controllers

The credit manager will oversee the organizations issuance of credit whereby he will determine credit rating , credit ceilings and also monitor collection of past credit

The risk and insurance manager are concerned with implementation of programs that will minimize risks and also losses that may arise from business operations however they also prepare and manage reports on the organizations insurance budgets

The cash financial manager will be concerned with the cash receipts and the cash disbursements of the organization in to meet the investment needs of the organization

Financial managers who act as controllers will oversee the preparation of financial reports of an organization and also prepares forecasts that show the financial position of the organization such as income statement and analysis of future expenses and earnings

Finance managers that act as treasurers oversee the investments of an organization and through this they direct the organizations goals budgets and objectives

The financial manager will play an important role in mergers and acquisitions and they will advise senior managers regarding such issues

Providing information that will facilitate allocation of financial resources in an organization , he or she will also provide information that aid in allocation of costs between cost of goods sold and inventory and this aids in profit reporting

Providing information that aids in effective planning , control and performance measures

The financial manager will also provide information that helps the other managers to arrive at the most optimum solution regarding investments and production processes

He will also provide information regarding routine conduct for the day to day operations

The daily operations and actions of a financial manager include the following

Checking the cash inflows and outflows of an organization and this is associated with his role of monitoring cash receipts and outflow

The other activity he or she is involved in is monitoring performance and efficiency of the business operations , this will involve checking the daily activities of the business and analyzing whether they are properly and effectively undertaken

He or she will also check any changes in business trends with regards with changes in sales volume , risk changes and new business opportunities

He will also monitor daily activities undertaken with regards to the organizations objective and budget , and in this way he will supervise the staff and prepare reports on performance of the business
