The world is facing a dimension where a lot of information and details are exchanged every day . Companies and organizations alike acquire numerous confidential data that are not to be divulged in the general public given the advent of information technology . If this pertinent information will be divulged , there is a big possibility that things will be complicated and would entail the organization a lot higher risk

The risk that is being referred does not only mean the knowledge of the information that was divulged

. The information that is being share within an organization can be converted as to something that is of a valuable asset . Risk is defined as the likelihood that a particular threat using a specific attack , will exploit a particular vulnerability of a system that results in an undesirable consequence (Crouhy et . al 2005 .The action of mitigating external factors that may affect the exchange of this valuable information is called risk management . As defined by the National Information Security System , risk management is the process concerned with identification , measurement , control and minimization of security risks in information systems to a level commensurate with the value of the assets protected

From the definition , we can consider risk management as a multi-faceted activity that starts when the information is perceived until it is transferred to one unit to another .
