The U .S . political system and the government were shaped to better serve the Americans . In to address various issues and combat problems faced by the nation , the American leaders devised rulings and laws . Inevitably , differing viewpoints and stances resulted to disagreements or conflicts . One insoluble war by nonviolent measures in American history was the Civil War . This war was regarded as War Between the States or the conflict between the Northern States and the Southern States which was seceded from the Union and formed the Confederacy (Mahler , 1993 . This war lasted for roughly four years . The war was not a class struggle but more likely was rooted in political economic and social elements . The war was believed to be existent way back in the days of the American Revolution and of the adoption of the Constitution wherein differences between North and South were dwarfed by their common interest in establishing a new nation
