RESPONSE TO QUESTIONS Response to Questions Name School Professor Subject The Responsibilities of the Department of Homeland Security Conceived as a result of the 9 /11 terrorism attacks , the Department of Homeland Security (DHS ) aims to stop other possible terrorism in American land . From the words homeland ' and security ' the message of the department is very clear . The terror of 9 /11 has alarmed not only the Americans but the whole world . If America , which is a very powerful country , did not escape this tragic event , how much

more are the less powerful nations
The department 's plan to stop terrorism includes programs to protect civil rights and promote civil liberties . DHS summarizes its roles in four : provides proactive legal assistance in various issues investigates complaints and solves them the soonest , gives equal employment opportunities , and disseminate information regarding civil rights and civil liberties to the public . All these roles are important for DHS to achieve its Vision Statement : Preserving our freedoms protecting America .we secure our homeland
At present , DHS has contributed the following in its aim to protect civil rights and civil liberties : educating people with disabilities about emergency preparedness and what to do in cases of emergencies developing harmonious relationships with different ethnic and religious communities and disseminating information about no-racial discrimination
These are just some of the contributions of DHS . Being a toddler department , DHS is doing its very best to suffice the needs for security of Americans . Though it is not really possible to all Americans DHS has been living each day to collect information that could be necessary in the security of the land . Its responsibilities are not simple . With what is happening in the present , the efforts of DHS may not be that visible but rest assured that the department is exhausting all possible ways to keep their promise to the public--that is to keep them safe while still enjoying their freedom
The VENONA Project and Former Senator Joseph McCarthy
The once classified VENONA Project was declassified in 1995 . Shocking truths were revealed , yet Senator Joseph McCarthy was condemned for his exposition of these shocking truths . He was even accused of communism . I am not aware of this VENONA Project . But upon reading my resources , I can 't believe that some employees of the State Government were Communists and that this VENONA Project was used to spy the American Government . VENONA Project was originally for decrypting or analyzing Soviet communication messages . Unfortunately , these Communists employed in the government twitched the purpose of the Project to become a tool to spy the American Government . Communists had penetrated the State Department without the public knowing it . McCarthy exposed the names of those Communists who worked in the State Government . These persons were proven guilty
