The aging population is an identifiable faction of society with specialized needs and demands that should be addressed by the family the community , the government , and several other organizations advocating for the welfare of the elderly . Old age disables the aging population to provide for their necessities and neither are their families consistently available to make certain that their needs are being met . The Ohio Department of Aging is actively involved in supporting the aging population in the state . In general , the purpose of the organization is to further the quality of life of the elderly , sixty years and older . Part of the organization 's program is to improve the health and lifestyle of the aging population in for them to become highly productive members of society .
