Research Proposal

I decided to study the How women are impacted daily by images in the media that only occasionally promote and more often demote a healthy body image . The cultures of Asian America , Latin American , African American , and white women impact image both similarly and differently Stated simply , I will be focusing on the impact mass media has on perception of healthy body image . The subject of my investigation is a great number of young girls and women who are bombed with messages from mass media promoting thinness , slimness , and slenderness

p The reason why I have chosen to study this social negative phenomenon is because the standards of female bodies , their size , and overall look have dramatically changed during the last decades . If we imagine Merylin Monroe and make her travel in time to year 2007 , she won 't have even the slightest chance to such a great number of men , as according to modern measurements the size of her clothes was L and XL . Such celebrities as Kate Moss are becoming more and more popular and important citing as an example their successful careers and in this way establishing new standards . Another important reason why I would like to research this problem lies in that anomalous perception of healthy body image leads not only to social changes and arguments , but also results in such disastrous illnesses as anorexia and bulimia . Being a successful woman my close relative died with diagnosed anorexia . The only thing she ate were cornflakes for breakfast , lunch , and dinner combined with daily exhausting exercises

Due to the fact that the problem has eventually attracted attention of a wide range of psychologists , sociologists , and physicians , it became easier to gain knowledge on this . It is well known that young 13-year-old girls start keeping to various diets in to become unrealistically slim and thin . However , oftentimes they forget about two important aspects . First of all , cinematography at full speed employs technological innovations and software to create optimal image . It denotes that in increasing frequency women are striving for non-existing role models that are looking at them from television , advertisements and news articles . Secondly , it is important to remember that catwalk is occupied by females whose look is created by couturier Initially , the latter played the role of creative people who due to their talents dressed women in various masterpieces . However , as time went by more and more modern modelers have become gays whose view on female beauty differs from that of traditional audience . Therefore nowadays we may observe fantastically tall (better to say long models characterized by pronounced thinness that smoothly changes into dystrophy

The objective of this research is to portray the significance of the issue and ensure certain solutions for the problem of abnormal body image . I hope that my will be thought-provoking for young girls and women so they will be able to critically analyze TV programs they watch , books and magazines they read , and products they buy...
