There is currently a great disparity in the behavior of artists and art historians as they search for information on their s of interest According to Bates (2001 , the humanities scholars generally employ

the academic approach in gathering information from libraries and museums with the main format being those depicted in peer-reviewed journals and monographs . On the other hand , artists are often observed to conduct their researches using multimedia platforms and other information technology-based resources . Such observations thus suggest that both methods of information gathering should be amply provided in libraries and museums , in for both professions to complete their tasks

Another recent study conducted by Elam (2007 ) described the opposite observation , that art historians recognize , appreciate and use electronic resources for their research studies .
