Research Design
Part 1 Formal research is academic in nature while a business proposal has a more practical orientation to it . The person making the business proposal is usually a sales person who is selling an idea . The objective of the business proposal is to sell the idea in such a manner that the audience will provide financing and invest in the implementation of that idea . Such is not the case in formal research . Usually formal research will be conducted in a university context . The formal research will be presented in the form of

a report which will be written in a formal language . In this respect , the writer of the formal report might express opinions and then provide recommendations in which to contextualize those opinions . However the report resulting from formal research is more likely not to have a practical orientation to it . The purpose of the research is to explore some issues and then provide recommendations on how to incorporate those issues into a specific context . For example the objective of a formal research project might be to explore the present and future role of human resource management . In that case the purpose is academic
When we move to the business proposal , it is likely to have specific steps through which HRM can be incorporated into the existing organizational structure . In this respect , the business proposal is building on the findings of formal research . Therefore the two areas are interlinked .
