Currently , we are living in the Information Age where the acquisition of information and news is (almost ) free and easy . Today , news and information are readily handed to us through the proliferation

of different forms of media like print and broadcast , and the recently added digital or the cyberspace media which has been useful in obtaining relevant information
In the past , mass media serves only to inform the public with limited information because of the control exercised by the state . Now , media took many forms and is within reach of the consumers , and people even use cell phones and pod casts to obtain the information people yearn for . As a result , we are now living in a society with too much media where one can choose to avail any of the various forms of media
Mass media is also a determinant of the form of governance of a nation Free media determines the inclination of a country to democracy with liberal ideologies . Media is abundant in a democratic country where citizens can fully exercise their freedom of expression and speech
These roles of mass media are very vital in a nation-state . These necessary functions carried out by media may often disregard or unnoticed by society . In my personal opinion , media has been the watchful eyes of people in global issues and events concerning even the ordinariness of life . Through media we are able to participate in life-changing situations that alter human lives . Free and easy media is essential in building a strong and informed society
The role of the journalists in a free country is to seek and report the truth . They should show the reflection and the true essence of the society . However , through an in-depth observation and analysis of the current trend of mass media , we can see that they no longer adhere to their unwritten obligations to the public . The polluted media can be observed mostly in broadcast media , especially on television . Nowadays they are motivated to produce shows that are not in line with the true essence of proper and good media . What stirs them to produce are higher ratings and more advertisements as a result of larger viewership
Public opinion is dominated by big media companies which manage many forms of mass media due to the same news and opinions have been portrayed in the different media . There is no longer variety in news for these huge media companies redirect our choices .
